The organizers of Denver Pop Culture Con announces their first donation drive with rewards for giving

DENVER – December 10, 2014 – Pop Culture Classroom (PCC) the non-profit organization that develops tools for learning using pop culture media plus organizes and produces Denver Pop Culture Con (DPCC), today announced their first donation drive for holiday giving since officially changing their name from Comic Book Classroom this fall.

“Donations from our generous community members help fuel our efforts to reach and teach as many young people as possible,” said Sam Fuqua, PCC Executive Director. “And, if you donate $25 or above, you start getting cool free Denver Pop Culture Con 2015 merchandise, like t-shirts, discount coupons, free passes to the con, and more. The more you give, the more benefits you get.”

PCC reports that over the past year their “Classroom” educational program reached over 500 4th – 9th grade students in local classrooms, helping those young participants develop their literacy, art, and self-awareness skills with the “Storytelling Through Comics” curriculum. The educational program also partnered with several local nonprofits this past summer to provide pop culture media classes to over 2,000 kids in Denver.

In addition to this, PCC recently announced plans to work with Denver corrections officials to develop a comics-based literacy and art unit for young adults incarcerated in the Denver jail system, many of whom read at or below a 5th grade level.

“It’s been a wonderful year for us. In addition to producing the annual celebration that is Denver Pop Culture Con, we have been hard at work on a wide-range of activities to help further literacy in our communities using comics and pop culture media.” said Fuqua.
