We’ll keep you updated throughout the year on how your donation has helped make our educational work possible.
We would also like to extend our gratitude to our community partners who donated items for the auction: Elitch Gardens Theme Park, Colorado Symphony, Sally Centigrade Art Gallery, Tattered Cover Book Store, Denver Film Society, The Curtis Hotel, Colorado Rockies and Illegal Pete’s.

Sunday, June 19
Food service begins at 12:30 p.m. Film starts at 2 p.m.
All ages welcome

On Sunday night we have the Denver Comic Con Cooldown with the Denver Film Society at the SIE FilmCenter. Since it is Father’s Day, they will be showing the GREATEST Father’s Day movie ever, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. BBQ will be provided by Steuben’s and after the movie we will replay some of the more popular Denver Comic Con panels that you might have missed. After that, we’ll jam to the sounds of Bossilator and try to kick the keg of Snape-ricot (assuming it makes it that long) in the SIE lobby. And, of course, reminisce on a great 2016 con. Movie tickets have a fee, but the panel replays and hanging out are free!

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Tickets

Thank you, super heroes!

It was no joking matter on April 1 when the Colorado Avalanche took on the Washington Capitals during the first ever Comic Book Hero Night at the Pepsi Center, organized by Pop Culture Classroom and the Colorado Avalanche. While the game itself may not have had many heroics, the Pepsi Center was full of all manner of costumed characters and comic book themed activities for the whole family. Pop Culture Classroom provided numerous family friendly activities ranging from a “Create a Hero” station where people designed their own hero complete with shield and mask (you need to protect your secret identity!) to a “Whodunit?” forensics lab where visitors collected clues, and using simple science, figured out which dastardly villain committed the crime! Pop Culture Classroom also provided a fun green screen opportunity where the whole family could pose with their favorite heroes for a great souvenir from the game (and maybe even a few quirky holiday card photos).

The wonderful people at Heroes Alliance came out in force, and the entire Pepsi Center was kept safe with the likes of Iron Man, Superman and Wonder Woman roaming the corridors. Many of these heroes, including Hawk Girl and Wolverine, took to the ice after the game to patrol for wayward Capitals players. Thanks to them, the ice was safe for yet another night.

One of the most unique aspects of the night was that for every Comic Book Hero Night ticket that was purchased, the Avalanche donated $5 to Pop Culture Classroom and they included a free Avalanche super hero cape! The hallways of the arena were crawling with “heroes in training,” showing the Avalanche that even though they lost, Denver is still united in burgundy.

Join Pop Culture Classroom on April 23, 2016 at Dicks Sporting Goods Park for Star Wars Night with the Rapids! For each discounted Star Wars Night ticket purchased, $5 will be donated from the Rapids to Pop Culture Classroom and you will receive a free Star Wars t-shirt (must purchase by April 8 to receive t-shirt)! Come see the Rapids play the Seattle Sounders and show your Jedi pride while supporting a great cause. Purchase tickets here:

Denver Days 2015 – EVENT RECAP!

On August 1st, 2015 Pop Culture Classroom participated with Ink Monstr in Mayor Hancock’s city-wide Denver Days initiative.

Denver Days is an initiative created to help neighbors get to know neighbors and get involved with their communities. With the help of several local organizations, Ink Monstr and the Sun Valley Community Coalition coordinated a free block party for Sun Valley residents with the specific goals of providing back to school supplies for neighborhood children and creating a safe, family-fun environment for residents. We provided live music, live art demonstrations, group art activities, bouncy castles, games, food, drinks, community outreach, and gave away over 100 bicycles to Sun Valley youth.

At The Pop Culture Classroom booth we gave away hundreds of all ages comics from Action Lab Entertainment and KABOOM! plus PCC Consulting Artist, Jay Peteranetz provided free sketches for kids.

We plan to make this Denver Days block party an annual event to bring Sun Valley residents together and promote a strong sense of community among neighbors.

Please enjoy and share Ink Monstr’s video recap of the event:
