Mike Pawuk is a librarian for the Cuyahoga County Public Library system. He is the author of the first edition of Libraries Unlimited’s book Graphic Novels: A Genre Guide to Comic Books, Manga, and More published in 2007 and co-author of the 2017 2nd edition co-written by David Serchay. Mike Chaired the 2002 YALSA all-day preconference on graphic novels which featured guest speakers Neil Gaiman, Art Spiegelman, Jeff Smith, and Colleen Doran and he regularly speaks on the subject of graphic novels. Pawuk, alongside other key librarians, helped to create the YALSA’s Great Graphic Novels for Teens selection list before it debuted in 2007 and served as a judge for the Will Eisner Awards in 2009. Currently, Pawuk contributes graphic novels reviews for School Library Journal’s Good Comics for Kids blog, is a moderator for the GN-4LIB graphic novel listserv, and is a co-convener for the American Library Association’s Graphic Novels in Libraries Member Initiative Group.
