Ronell Whitaker is a high school English teacher and Technology Coach in Illinois at Community High School District 218. He fell in love with comics when his mother introduced him to Archie Comics as a means of pacifying her energetic six year old. His love of comics at an early age turned into a love of reading of types, which led to his passion as an English teacher. As an educator, Mr. Whitaker recognized that comics could be a tool to help his students develop their own love of reading, as well as fluency in multiple literacies. He has presented across the country at conferences and conventions such as the National Council of Teachers of English, the American Library Association’s Summer Conference, as well as C2E2(Chicago) Denver, Emerald City(Seattle), New York, and San Diego Comic Cons, on the virtues of comics in the classroom.
