Enhancing Education Through Pop Culture

Pop Culture Classroom is thrilled to announce an innovative and one-of-a-kind professional development opportunity happening at Denver Pop Culture Con 2015. Offered through Adams State University as a 0.5 graduate credit, ED 589: Enhancing Education Through Pop Culture is a 3-day professional development course offered exclusively during DPCC (May 23rd-25th, 2015). Designed and administered by educators at Pop Culture Classroom, this course will provide participants the opportunity to share ideas, build critical partnerships, and learn from leaders in the field of pop culture education.

Throughout the course, participants will:

  • PARTICIPATE in both theoretical and/or methods-based panels during the convention weekend.
  • LEARN how to leverage this ubiquitous form of cultural expression to further their craft as educators.
  • DISCUSS how popular culture resources, events, and expressions can be successfully integrated them into lesson plans for their particular classroom.
  • DEVELOP the ability to integrate pop culture into regular education, allowing them to combine relationship development with content education.

With hundreds of hours of educational programming to choose from, focusing on everything from comic book writing to gender studies to literacy development, this course promises to be an incredibly diverse opportunity for educators from all backgrounds and subject areas. As a bonus, participants will join thousands of pop culture fans at DPCC in learning about cutting-edge technologies, books, games and other materials from all over the world that can be brought back to their classrooms and schools.
