SPRING BREAK CAMP

 

Manga Madness

Location: Pop Culture Classroom, 2760 W 5th Avenue, Denver, CO 80204
Monday – Friday, March 26- 30, 9am – 12pm
Cost: $150
Limited to 15 students, 8-14 years old (at time of camp)

Are you a fan of shows like DragonBall Z, Naruto, or Pokémon? Are you interested in learning about more manga, anime, and how to create your own? Pop Culture Classroom is here for you! This workshop will teach you the basics of building your very own manga (comic book) based around anime drawing styles and storytelling. You’ll learn how to draw vibrant characters and settings, design your own comic panels, and lots more ways to make your comic a reality!

 

SUPER SUMMER CAMPS

 

Camp Comic Con

June 11th-15th, 9am-3pm
Cost: $300
Limited to 15 students, 8-14 years old (at time of camp)

This exciting summer camp comes with free admission into Denver Pop Culture Con and helps students build their own costume to wear there! Love the idea of being someone else for a day? This Pop Culture Classroom workshop will introduce you to the amazing world of cosplay (costume play)! We’ll show you how some of the most popular character costumes are designed and teach you the tools/techniques that real-life cosplayers use to design handmade costumes. During the workshop, you’ll learn from cosplay artists how to design costumes, work with costume-making materials, and even get the chance to dress up as your favorite characters at Comic Con!

 

Sci-Fi Camp: Episode 1

Location: Pop Culture Classroom, 2760 W 5th Avenue, Denver, CO 80204
June 25th -29th, 9am – 3pm
Cost: $300 ($250 camp plus $50 materials fee)
Limited to 15 students, 8-14 years old (at time of camp)

Droids, spaceships, and force fields galore! This Pop Culture Classroom summer camp will combine cosplay (costume play/design) with illustration and storytelling! You’ll practice the magical storytelling and character development techniques used in high-tech sci-fi movies like Star Wars. Pop Culture Classroom will be partnering with local droid and prop builders to bring elements of popular sci-fi movies to life! We welcome all nerds as well as those who are entering the world of sci-fi for the first time!

 

Camp Game On!

Monday – Friday, July 9th – 13th, 9am-3pm
Cost: $300
Limited to 15 students, 8-14 year olds (at time of camp)

Get your game on this summer! In this Pop Culture Classroom summer camp, you’ll have the chance to play, analyze, and create your very own tabletop games. You’ll learn the ins and outs of how games like Catan, Ticket to Ride, and Bang! are developed and played. Local game designers and experts will then show you different techniques to design different versions of these games and then create your own! By the end of the week, you’ll have a fully developed game that you can bring home and play with your family and friends! No experience in game design or gaming required.

 

Comic Book Camp

Monday – Friday, July 23rd – 27th, 9am-3pm
Cost: $300
Limited to 15 students, 8-14 year olds (at time of camp)

From Calvin & Hobbes to Lumberjanes to Boondocks, comic books offer something for everyone! Join Pop Culture Classroom in this exciting summer camp, where you will explore the fantastic worlds of superheroes, fantasy creatures, and dastardly villains in order to learn how to write and illustrate your very own comic book. Each day, you’ll learn techniques about comic book storytelling and receive hands-on art instruction from real-life comic book artists. Along with a new love for the world of comics and their creators, you’ll finish the camp with a fully illustrated comic to call your own! Students do not need to have any experience in art or comics to join.
