Denver Comic Con, Denver’s largest consumer convention and program of education-nonprofit Pop Culture Classroom, continues its tradition of commemorating pop culture milestones with this year’s celebration of Star Trek’s 50th Anniversary.
This year in honor of the show’s golden anniversary, Denver Comic Con (June 17-19 at the Colorado Convention Center) will provide guests and content to pay tribute to Star Trek, the most popular and longest running American science fiction series. Guests will include John DeLancie, who played Q in “Star Trek: Next Generation” and Garrett Wang who played the role of Ensign Kim in “Star Trek: Voyager.” Also, DCC attendees will have the opportunity to see Manu Intiraymi, who played Icheb in “Star Trek: Voyager.” He will announce his planned anthology film, “The Circuit: The Last Convention,” featuring fan-inspired stories gathered from 50 years of Star Trek conventions. Plus, attendees can meet and greet Karl Urban, who plays Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy from the J.J. Abrams-directed Star Trek films.
In addition to Star Trek guests, popular anime voice actors Vic Mignogna (Naruto Shippuden) and Todd Haberkorn (Sgt. Frog) will screen and discuss the sixth episode of their award-winning series “Star Trek Continues,” which picks up the adventures of the crew of the Starship Enterprise after the show’s cancellation in 1969. Other Star Trek celebrants include John Eaves, a production designer and model maker who has been designing official starships since the 1989 film “Star Trek V: The Final Frontier,” and Judy Burns, who was a screenwriter on the original series and wrote the episode “The Tholian Web” (1968).
Also, the fan-favorite YouTube series “Trekyards” will be in attendance, filming new episodes and bringing surprise guests of their own to Denver Comic Con, including news about the controversial fan-produced feature film “Axanar.”
“We’re pulling out all the stops to provide unique guests and content to celebrate Star Trek’s 50th anniversary,” said Bruce MacIntosh, programming director for Denver Comic Con. “The combination of actors, films and panels that we’re providing this year is something that has never been collected under one roof. We’re truly going ‘where no one has gone before.’”
