2023 Summer Camps
Comic Book Camp
For Ages 8-12 years
June 12-16 (9:00 am-12:00 pm)

Explore comics and manga to create your own comics through storytelling and art techniques. Get creative and dream up your own superheroes, villains and fantasy creatures. Tell the stories of the crazy adventures they go on in your very own comic book! You’ll work with experienced artists and comic book writers. By the end of the camp, each camper will have their own original 4-page finished comic book!
Game On! Camp
For Ages 8-12 years

Learn through play in this camp all about designing your own board game! Students can build project-management, teamwork, critical thinking, problem solving, and creative skills while modifying existing games and making simple sketches of new game concepts. Build a prototype of your game and playtest your creation in this fun hands-on class.
Intro to Cosplay Camp
For Ages 13-17 years
June 19-23 (1:00 pm- 4:00 pm)

Learn how to bring your favorite comic/manga, video game, or film/tv characters to life using makeup and costumes. Make a visual plan for your character and then build parts of your costume in our daily work sessions. Cosplay Camp fee includes Friday 1-day passes for the student and a parent to attend Fan Expo Denver on July 30 to show off your cosplay creation at the comic convention. Additional $50 supply fee payable to Pop Culture Classroom the first day of camp for fabric and supplies.
Game On! Mini Camp
For Ages 8-12 years
June 20-22 (9:30 am-11:30 pm)

Students will work in teams of up to 5 to design board games. They will use the maker studio at the library to laser cut tokens or game pieces from templates and then playtest each others games.

Worldbuilding for Fantasy and Sci-Fi Camp

“Who doesn’t love getting lost in fictional worlds like the Star Wars Universe or the Wizarding World of Harry Potter? In this collaborative creative summer camp, students will learn the process of building their own Fantasy or Sci-Fi world and applying them to creative writing, art projects, cosplay, and mini models. If you love to write your own stories, draw crazy creatures, or imagine yourself as the hero (or villain!) on an epic quest, this camp has something for you! Join us to explore the worlds in your own imagination and bring them to life with Pop Culture Classroom this summer!”
Interactive Branching Narratives with Twine
For Ages 12-16 years

Create an interactive branching narrative experience similar to ” Choose- Your-Own- Adventure” books or games like “Minecraft: Story Mode” . Students learn how to use basic HTML coding to make playable non-linear narrative adventures. The library will provide internet connected computers or laptops for workshop participants.
