Hello!
Welcome to the new Pop Culture Classroom website. We hope you like the site—and our new logo—as much as we do. I’m Sam Fuqua, PCC’s new Interim Executive Director. In my first few weeks here, I’ve met so many people who are passionate about PCC’s mission, starting with our dedicated team of staff, volunteers, and board members. I’ve talked with teachers, artists, Comic Con fans, librarians, filmmakers, business associates, parents—people of all ages and backgrounds united by the belief that we can reach kids through comics and other pop-culture media. This is a national movement, and PCC is positioned to play a leading role.
Please take a few minutes to explore our new website. We have some great tools for teachers, including free “Storytelling Through Comics” lesson plans, instructional handouts, and worksheets. You’ll also find useful links to additional resources.
If you’re not familiar with PCC, our mission is to ignite a love of learning, increase literacy, celebrate diversity, and build community through the tools of popular culture and the power of self-expression. I remember—and I know many of you reading this remember—the excitement we felt reading our first comics and watching great adventure shows. I still get excited about that stuff, and I bet you do, too! There’s something powerful about those first experiences with pop culture when we’re young. At PCC, we strive to harness that energy and use it to ignite the creativity that’s inside each and every child.
Please bookmark this site, and stay tuned for more updates right here. Help us spread the word about PCC on your favorite social networks. And we really want to hear from you! Please let us know what you think about the new website in the comments section below or by emailing community@popcultureclassroom.org.
Remember—all proceeds from Denver Pop Culture Con support PCC’s educational programs. We’re working hard on the 2015 DPCC, which will be a fantastic family-friendly celebration of all things pop culture. You’re sure to have fun at DPCC, but you’ll also have the opportunity to learn a little—or a lot—by attending our many educational programs. Get your tickets now for Memorial Day weekend 2015 at the Colorado Convention Center, as we expect a sellout again this year.
Please join us!
