(Denver, April 24, 2020) — Pop Culture Classroom, the Colorado-based educational non-profit and community group behind Denver Pop Culture Con, today launched a new, resource-rich webpage dedicated to distance learning.

“So many of us engage with pop culture on a regular basis, but even more so as we spend extended periods of time at home,” said Matt Slayter, Education Program Manager at Pop Culture Classroom. “We’re giving aspiring creators, families, and educators easy-to-use ways to tap into the educational potential of the pop culture media that so many of us love.”

This timely new distance-learning page — online at https://classroom-pcc.flywheelsites.com/distance-learning/ — offers a variety of free resources to keep kids, teens, and adults engaged and learning through pop culture — even when they are unable to physically attend a class, workshop, or in-person educational opportunity.

The Pop Culture Classroom Distance Learning page includes:

  • Resource videos and blog posts for parents and educators on topics like art, gaming, and storytelling for comic books and other pop culture;
  • On-demand versions of live-streamed drawing courses and other creative workshops;
  • Free educational comics and curriculum; and
  • New resources added each week

“Everyone is adapting to this new world very quickly, and we want to help parents and educators any way we can,” said Adam Kullberg, Education Director and Interim Executive Director at Pop Culture Classroom.

“We know distance learning can be tough, and our hope is that through these pop culture resources, we can help in reaching all types of learners and keep their passion for learning alive,” continued Kullberg. “Our number one priority is serving the needs of our community through this difficult time, and we’ll continue to update our website and social media with new resources as we go.”

Currently, viewers will find on-demand drawing and creation tutorials for all ages, a blog post celebrating the educational and social/emotional benefits of Dungeons and Dragons, a video showing how video games can reinforce literacy skills, dozens of free comics about important moments in American history, with much more to come.
