Pop Culture Classroom’s Colorful History is a series of educational comics about people, places, and events in U.S. History. Colorful History spotlights essential — and sometimes more rarely taught — topics in engaging ways.
This 56-page comic collection includes 10 free history comics:
- “The Boston Tea Party” – The story of what happened on the night of December 16, 1773, and the importance of The Boston Tea Party as a spark for events leading to the American Revolutionary War.
- “How Inflation Works” – The issue of inflation is explored in easy-to-understand concepts with relatable examples.
- “The History of Halloween” - Learn about the history of Halloween, one of the most widely celebrated holidays in the U.S.
- “Sal Castro and the East L.A. Walkouts” – This special issue written by students of Arvada High School (Arvada, CO) tells the story of the East L.A. Walkouts of 1968, detailing how thousands of Los Angeles students, legendary teacher Sal Castro, and others helped spark the Chicano movement for education equity. “Immigration & Citizenship” – Explore what it takes for immigrants to become U.S. citizens.
- “The Great Depression” – A relatable look at an economic event whose effects still impact the United States today.
- “What is Climate Change?” – A kid-friendly explainer on the concept of climate change, approachable for grades 3-5.
- “Cesar Chavez, The Farmworkers’ Champion” – The story of Cesar Chavez, whose efforts to organize farm workers and consumers helped improve labor conditions and protections for farm workers.
- “Jerry Lawson and Channel F” – The story of the self-taught computer and electronics expert — and one of the few Black computer engineers in the field in the 1970s — who invented the cartridge-based video game system.
- “A Tale of Dungeons & Dragons” – Learn the history of Dungeons & Dragons™, the most popular and influential role-playing game of all time.
